Olympic Park Munich

Olympic Park Munich

Munich | Germany

Project duration: since 2020

The motto of the XXth Summer Olympic Games in 1972, "Olympic Games in the Green and the short distances," was meant to be reflected in all aspects of the Olympic Games in Munich. In 1967, the city was awarded the bid for the XXth Summer Olympic Games, impressing the jury with its design. Within five years, an architectural landscape was created that, due to its ingenious mastery, human scale, and sustainable reuse, is still considered a unique work of the highest significance today. Every year, millions of people visit and use the Olympic Park, just as they did back then.

The tentative application by the city of Munich indicates that the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of the World Heritage site is justified by criteria (i), (ii), and (iv). In the course of preparing the tentative application, a Statement of OUV was developed, which details the OUV of the proposed World Heritage property.

IHM played a significant role in the development of the tentative application. In 2022-2023, an attribute mapping for the World Heritage nominee was created. IHM provided advisory services to the client throughout the process. As of december 2023, Munich's Olympic Park is inscribed on the German Tentative List. From 2024 to 2026, the preparation of the Preliminary Assessment Dossier for Munich's Olympic Park has been commissioned.
